Steam Password Issue

Glad you got this sorted out, though it's extremely ironic that the game that was intended to bring about an end to physical media, is the one game that it is absolutely essential to keep the physical copy of.

Not long till it'll be a 20 year old game too. Absolutely ridiculous that they would require that, but it suddenly makes that old game extremely valuable depending on Steam account value and likely an item worth putting in a safe for many.
or you could just print out this handy list of 1 time passcodes and you know ... put that in your safe.

Still well worth having as backup as we've just seen in this topic. What if those passwords are changed because you got hacked? Suddenly that box is the only way to get your account back, as we've just seen in this very topic.

Yeah, as mentioned earlier ,what happens if you opened your account with a few digital games? as i did back in 2010. The earliest retail code i used was later in 2011 - which i dont have anyway.

GF had this exact issue earlier in the year. Originally they wanted a photo of a Counter Strike Source serial number from the back of a cd case... purchased in 2004. Fortunately we could prove ownership by sending some info of a PayPal purchase from yeas ago

Years ago I was so paranoid about losing my Steam account that I'd upload screenshots to my Gmail of every receipt from every game that I bought on there. A bit ocd on my part I guess but recently it became worthwhile when I contacted their support to ask for help in accessing my account for the 1st time in 10 years. All they asked for was proof of purchase of any one game on my account. Bonus! So yeah, I'd deffo recommend anyone to screenshot and save their next steam receipt as it'll act as a golden ticket to regain access to their account should they ever lose or forget their password. It did for me at least.

If its only been 6 months then you would have had steam guard enabled by default for you at some point, or gone through the massive hoops to disable it.
They instruct you to print out a small list of 1 time use keycodes to be used in exactly this scenario.

i haven't had to do this?
