Steam pricing v CD keys etc...

Avoid them for the timebeing!! I had used them on and off before, and had been fine. I bought a game key a few weeks ago,for something which was released in the last week. It never came - so queried their CS a few days ago. No answer outside an automated E-mail. Waited 24 hours, asked what was happening. Used social media to contact them no answer, and then looked on Twitter:

https://twitter.com/hashtag/cdkeys?lang=en

LMAO,loads of people not receiving their keys, sometimes upto 4 days after a CS query, there was no anwser!! No answering of CS.

Then saw this:

It seems they are having major issues now,so are having a heavy level of CS queries. That tells me they are not delivering keys.

So after two working days in Dubai(this is where they are located),I had no response. Then I decided to contact them via Paypal mediation. Waited another working day and nothing. So at this point I had used e-mail,social media and Paypal to contact them. The joke is before using Paypal to contact them they say it normally takes around 2 hours for a response. LMAO.

Then I had to escalate it to a claim and got my refund.

So for the time-being avoid them.

as a counter to this, i've used them twice this week and had my keys within 5 minutes.

if you are using htem pay by paypal and your safe regardless

Not anymore no, not since their sales have died. Steam charges €60 for a game so no, you would have to be mad to pay that when the same game is on CD Keys for around half the price.

I don't fully understand why people buy on Steam, I suppose it's brand loyalty (aka Apple or Nvidia etc. - which these companies know they can charge extra for) or else they are afraid to use a CD key site as they have not used one before. But yes it does seem mad paying so much extra for it on steam. I suppose a lot of older people or people who aren't really tech-savvy can rely on Steam instead of a CD key site they are not familiar with.

Well I would say why do people think its right to use CD Key sites? I hardly buy from Steam as most of the time it is available from authorised sellers for either same price or less. Usually also has codes flying around to make it a little cheaper.

I could buy Dishonored 2 for €8 on my go to cdkey site . Steam are charging €39.99 for same game you do the maths.

Everything has to do with money... it's cheap for a reason (so people from poorer countries can still afford). Ignoring buying games during sales, I also hear the argument the Devs still get paid. Which is true but, the cut they get from CDKeys buying from poor regions is a lot less than the cut they would get if someone bought that game from their own region.

And the best way people defend them is due to price. Would you buy from a thief if they sold you something cheaper? OK so this last one isn't great as they aren't fraudsters but, you are using CDKeys as the middle man (VPN) to buy from a different region not intended for you. Doing so yourself is against TOS for pretty much all gaming applications.

Use CDKeys all you want though it's your choice, your money. I still support region locking all games until the point its added to one's account, in which any region lock is then lifted.

Because you are still supporting the developers but with a smaller cut going to the retail intermediary instead.

What is wrong with CD key sites?

I have over 300 games on my steam/uplay/origin accounts of which around 90% are from those locations. Every so often i take a look at the CDkeys like sites and if i see a game that ive always wanted to play but never wanted to spend the money on it going cheap i snap it up.

Ive never had a problem claiming the key. And no.... a lot of the games ive got i havent even played!!

Pubs/devs are free to lock if they don't like it. Steam has 6 regions (I think it's 6, might be more) and devs/pubs are free to set which region keys can activate in. If they choose not to use what is available to them, then it's down to them.

Don't see why publishers are allowed to take advantage of the global market (setting up studios where it's most cost effective, out sourcing support etc), but end user shouldn't shop around and should only buy from where we are told for whatever price.

would you have a problem buying an iphone in the US for less than you would pay for it over here?

same thing devs can set the price that their keys go out at so its there call what they want to charge. if they want to treat EU/UK as an easy mark then hell mend them when we shop elsewhere

I wouldn't but many do and it's also a risk as it doesn't provide warranty. Also the profit they will get from any sale of iPhones is most likey huge compared to the cost to make.

Developers probably don't make much profit when selling to poor regions and if they gave us the same price as poor regions, the company probably wouldn't be able to last long as they'd get hardly any money from any sales. Imagine life without any developers who can afford to keep producing games.

AAA games from keysites , or steam/legit retailers if it happens to be cheaper. Indies from legit sites.

That's my policy, anyway. Have seen too many indie devs talking about how hundreds of keys to their games, or the games of devs they know, being bought with stolen cards, then charged back (thus the devs losing keys for no revenue). Indies don't tend to be priced differently in other markets, unlike AAAs.

I got dragon age origins got edition earlier on cdkeys for 8.99. Bargain!!
Believe it or not that's a terrible deal. I got it (legitimately) for £3.99 on Origin, and it's even hit £2.24 on Steam (although I believe that still requires Origin).

It's been down to £3.79 on GoG a fair few times the last couple of month.

Na it doesn't need origin, DA1 came out before EA were releasing only on Origin. I've never seen it that low (2.24) tbh, but I've seen it around the £3.50-4 mark generally in the sales. Looking at the chart on isthereanydeal, it's interesting to see how origin have raised the price of it.

Sorry my bad. Dragon age inquisition got edition

Ahhh, yea i did think that's the normal price for DAI, that'd be matching sale price IIRC. The only time i've ever seen that cheaper was from Game as a digital code when I grabbed it, was only £5. I've never seen it that low anywhere else ever again.

Just picked up Hitman 2 gold edition for $54 on Kinguin vs the $100 on steam...

I can't remember the last time I bought anything out of a steam sale directly from steam.
