Steam question please

Just got a new hard copy of "need for speed hot pursuit" for PC in the post.
can i download the game via Steam and enter my code i got with my copy?

It's asking for me to add the game to the basket on steam.
I was expecting just a download button lol ?

Does it appear on this list?

If so - just go to "Add Non-Steam Game" from the menu.

it's not on the list.

do i install from the DVd then later on "add none steam game"
then i wont need the disc in future to download ?

If its not on the list then you can't add it to steam

Games which cannot be registered through Steam may still be added to your game list for easy access

Does this mean after i have installed the game via DVD i can later on add the game as none steam BUT use steam to launched the game without the DVD in ?

Depends if the game requires the disc to play, if it does you will need it in regardless of how you try and start it.

You can probably add the key to origin and then download/play it from there without the disc.

your still going to have to put the disk in

all what your are doing is putting a shortcut in steam

your can still shift+tap to use the steam overlay tho

edit:

since its a EA game you may be able to put your key into origin

ok cheers guys, i have one last stupid question lol

Im just going to install from disc.
but there are 5 patches to download for it.

can i just install the patch 5 or do i have to install the previous 4 patches first?

i did look on Ea site but it didnt say either way.

no harm in downloading patch 5 first and trying to install it

worst that would happen it asks for patch 4

oh how i love steam havent had to find and download a patch for myself in years

If memory serves NFS HP don't require the disc to play, well, it didn't when i played it, might have changed.....
