Hi

Can I register a game I bought on Disc with a Steam version?

If so, does that mean I can use the Steam version and have it available to install/ reinstall when ever I want without the disc?

Hope this makes sense!

Cheers :)

Only if the game is a Steamworks game. For example, Just Cause 2 requires Steam to play, so if you buy the retail version you can just add the CD key to your Steam account. For any non Steamworks games, then the answer is no.

Yep, you've been able to activate quite a number of non Valve games on Steam since long before Steamworks was even introduced. :)

Steamworks is just the matchmaking/achievements/anti-cheat/copy-protection components that make some games require Steam. There's lots of titles that you can play without Steam, but you can use your key and activate it on Steam if you want. :)

O RLY? I would love to know that.

I know you can add Non-Steamwork games to your Steam library.

The list of all the titles is in the Steam FAQ, and been linked to here. :)
