Steam reveal

Looks pretty interesting to me. Hope it doesn't cost a bomb though.

The Steam Controller is built around a new generation of super-precise haptic feedback, employing dual linear resonant actuators. These small, strong, weighted electro-magnets are attached to each of the dual trackpads....As a parlour trick they can even play audio waveforms and function as speakers.

Hahaha brilliant, that could be entertaining.

Looks stupid, i don't even, wow.
Surly they've done research, but i just cant see how that would work.
You need plenty of controls, and those just aren't easily accessible. Why the hell are the buttons there. You would actual have to take you thumbs off the embedded joysticks to hit buttons.

I hate trackpads with a passion, can't see that a controller with them will be brilliant to use unless they've completely revolutionised the tech that powers trackpads :(

This is why they are doing a beta i imagine...

The buttons could have been smaller and placed under a track pad, then just push harder than usual to use it...though that is barely a solution.

We wont know 'til someone get some hands on it, so shall wait...though the advantages for certain games is likely the reason for the development of these.

Personally I think the pad looks really good just because you could press 2 buttons at once seen as there are 2 in reach of each thumb instead of one to press all the buttons

The pads are clickable buttons also.

Looks like its aimed at shooters where you only click to fire, something like Fifa would be better on the 360 controller

The most prominent elements of the Steam controller are its two circular trackpads. Driven by the player’s thumbs, each one has a high-resolution trackpad as its base. It is also clickable, allowing the entire surface to act as a button. The trackpads allow far higher fidelity input than has previously been possible with traditional handheld controllers. Steam gamers, who are used to the input associated with PCs, will appreciate that the Steam Controller’s resolution approaches that of a desktop mouse.
