Steam sales: How deep discounts really affect your games

As someone else said the only person I have seen arguing about how it 'cheapens an IP' was that moron from Origin. Who if I heard correctly also launched a sale of their own?

Giant bombcast had a bit on the Steam sales and had some developers (not directly but quotes) saying due to the sales the HUUGE spikes in the people buying the games and the advertising they got from it. Even games that had been around a while, Dear Esther is a good example.

What about Age of Empires 3?

Got a second coming with appearing on Steam sales.

If a game deserves to be bought at full price on release then i will buy it but can any of you really say that any recent game has been worth release price? Ive been burned to many times (especially by bioware) to trust buying games at full price i now have to be certain there is quality in the games.

I can see some merit in the argument, as I know I personally don't bother with new games at full price these days - how long ago was it that Max Payne 3 came out? June 1st? And it was £15 in the sale a month and a bit later. That's a big name IP in the gaming world too.

Why bother shelling out £30+ for such games when you know full well that (excepting Activision it seems) the Steam sale prices will slash the cost within a few months at most?

Unless you are ridiculously impatient, it's a complete no brainer as far as I see it.

who would buy some of those games if offered from a car boot sale
I think Steam helps the PC game industry - although in the right hands.
