Steam Summer Sale

How's the original Company of Hero's? Worth a punt?

Is it something super deep that you have to plow a lot of time into to really enjoy?

I played it last night and it isn't hard to get into, fantastic game so far and if you are a fan of strategy games then you can't go wrong, Something i liked so far is that you actually feel for these men e.g. on the D Day assault its a tad soul destroying to see wave after wave get blown away.

I'd say it's worth a punt and at £3.50 you could do much worse

What's funny is that reading your post is what made me laughingly and jokingly get the demo to see what the fuss was about and ended up loving it.

So thanks :p

Already got loads of flak for it from a friend but don't even care :D

It is really addictive. You think it will suck until you play it.

I'm pretty sure there's a dedicated thread on here somewhere that had various mods listed in it.

EDIT; Get them on it! Will probably end up loving it too. :P

that's how much money i'm making off these cards :D So I got all those games for £13 (technically) bargain :p
I don't understand how... You have to spend about £7 to get a card or get about 5 or 6 so far from voting... They sell for about 10p each meaning that even if you had collected 20 cards you would still only have about £2 from them.

But by my calculation you've made roughly £20?

Please tell us your secret.

I was about to buy it....when I found out I already own it.

But I have no memory of buying it, at least not from this sale. Is there any way I can find out when I purchased it and how much I paid?
Check in your steam account details and it will tell you whether you bought it from steam or elsewhere, if you bought it from steam you can check your emails from steam.

If not then you probably got it in a bundle or from another site like GMG, either way search your email inbox for deadlight, might show up.

Not seen much mention of FarCry 3, is it worth it at that for £11.99?
How about XCOM at £7.49?

I think Far Cry 3 is well worth £11.99, I guess its a shame it hasn't dropped as much as some games but one of my favourite games of the last year and still a bargain at that price.

XCom also a steal at £7.49

Ok I found it. I bought it along with Doom 3: BFG Edition on 14th July. Paid £7.48 for the two. Weirdly I'm checking my emails and thats the only one I cant find. I have email receipts for every other game I bought in the sale.

Can anyone remember how much either of them were selling for on the 14th?

For anyone thinking of Company of Heroes, I think it is easily the best world war 2 RTS I have played, probably the best RTS in general (and I have played many in my 25 years of PC gaming) even better then COH 2 at this point in time as I feel that still isn't very well optimized. Great visuals, even for a game that old, well thought out and scripted campaign, great voice acting and very very involving campaign story lines. The campaigns really carry you through a little bit of actual WW2 history, like operation Market Garden etc. Once you finish the campaigns you can delve into skirmishes, plenty of maps to choose from and various game modes. Then there is multiplayer of course, either coop with a friend against AI, which can be set to easy or bloody hard, or delve into a large Allies VS Germans game with others in an annihilation game. Then once you get bored with that, there are superb fan based mods created for it, some really top notch, like Eastern Front, adds the Russians to the fight, or Battle of the Bulge, Blitzkrieg etc, all free and easy to add.

So all in all, COH is easily worth £4.99 for the complete pack and I would get the complete pack as it adds 2 more factions and several more campaigns. Hours and hours of great game play for the price of a cheap bottle of wine.

As for people who are thinking of Deadlight, I would also highly recommend this little gem. My only regrets with that one is that I felt it ended too soon but then again, anything you enjoy tend to always be short cause you are enjoying it. Deadlight from the outside is a simple sideways scroller zombie shooter game but with the combination of some really great visuals (on some areas you really feel that the world you are in is desolate and in ruins) good voice acting, nice little story to follow, some great action and puzzles along the way. I would say it slightly similar to Limbo except less puzzles, more shooting, add zombies and superb highly detailed graphics (not saying Limbo wasn't good, as it was great litttle game). All in all, easily worth a few quid.

Hope that helps.

EDIT: PS for those people who bought Fallout NV, if you get a chance, read my previous post in this thread, it should enrich your experience with NV.

hi

I just bought COH gold from the steam sale.

I have company of heroes and opposing fronts in the download queue but I also have another version of COH (new steam version)?

currently its downloading the new steam version of which is 7.5gig but the other COH in the download list is 7.5gig do I need them both?

bit confused.

cheers

The new steam version has everything you need.
I believe it changed to that as the relic servers closed down so steam is supporting it - something like that.
