You do know that Virgin cap your speed if you download more than a couple of gig or so during the day (10am - 9pm I think)?

That could be why at times you don't get the full speed. Also, bare in mind that if you do hit the limit, the speed cap lasts for 5 hours regardless.

I usually get 500-800kbps on Steam, whereas I usually get a constant 850kbps with most normal Internet downloads. That's with an 8Mb TalkTalk connection.

Yeah I remember when 500kbps was fast for me. Now I am crying when I get this speed as I am used to 2Mbps lol

I haerd thats the max download limit for Steam. Nay matter of your speed, that connection is top, I only usually get about 300kb.

With my uni connection i sometimes get close to 10mb/s so i don't think theres an upper limit in regards to download speed.

I did say I heard or 'haerd' , that it was 500kb. I personally don't know anyone who gets more than that.
