Hope this isn't in the wrong place ( Sorry if it is Mods )

I'm just about going to buy a new lappy from the main site and I'm trying to work out the best way to get my "SteamApps" folder from A>B.

I will own two laptops , both running windows 8.1.

Whats my best options please ?

On a side note , will I be able to do the same thing with my uPlay games ?

Thanks :)

What do you mean? You want to transfer your Steam games to your new laptop?

If so copy the SteamApps folder from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam to the same patch in your new PC. I would recommend installing STEAM to your PC, logging on, then pasting everything.

Can't speak about uPlay, as I don't use it.

Assuming you have them both connected to the same network install steam on the new machine and then literally just copy the appdata folder to the new laptop.

Once you have done this you will need to sign in to steam and right click each of your games to select the install option. Steam might have to download a little bit of data for each game that isn't stored inside the steamapps folder but basically it will check the location for existing files before downloading them meaning they appear to install exceptionally quickly.

Yes , I understand the process of it all. Just trying to work out the best way to transfer that data.

wifi transfer
external hdd
maybe some sort of usb>usb cable

Whats the best/fastest way to transfer files please ?

If you have a gigabit router and a couple of network cables then wiring them both in and transferring the data over the network is probably the easiest and should get your transfer speeds of 100MB/s if you are lucky.

Failing that an external hard drive would probably be the next quickets but only if its USB3 and still more faff than just doing it over a good wireless link.

You don't need to do this, I done it the other day and it seemed to work straight away.

Ok ...heres where I sound stupid lol

So plug both lappys into my router.

Then just send one to another ? A>B . No need for a home group set up or anything else ?

Then just reinstall the steam client and I'm good to go......

If you share your steamapps folder with 'Everyone' you should be able to see it on the other laptop.

Then just copy it into the steam folder on the new laptop.

Easy peasy.
