Step by step guide on how to RD to linux from XP?

Brand new to linux, eventually got a Ventrilo server up and running. (Installing things isn't straight forward is it?)

Looking for a step-by-step, inc command lines (i.e not just "extract to usr and install") on how to set up a remote desktop server so I can control it from home.

Google is no help.

Which distro are you using?

SSH-server is what you'll be wanting to look at.

You shouldn't really need RDP use for running a vent server.. just bog standard SSH access will suffice.

It's more for setting new stuff up than maintaining the Vent server.

Just want to be able to control it without having to swap my monitor over & plugging a moue and keyboard into it.

open up terminal

sudo apt-get openssh-server

download putty on your main rig - put in the network address of your linux box port 22 and press connect. put in your local username and password for ubuntu and you'll be presented with a shell.

It has VNC built in.
System --> Preferences --> remote desktop

turn it on, then use UltraVNC on windows.
