Right, first off this is my system as it stands...

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz
Abit AB9 (Socket 775) mobo
OCZ Platinum Revision 2 XTC 4gb Ram
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 (third party cooler used)
Windows 7 64
Xi-Fi extreme gamer sound card

Right, now a few months ago my machine started restarting during games which was extremely annoying, so i tried a fresh install of windows. This only worsened the problem so I re-installed vista. The same problem occurred so I figured it was the power supply, and after testing a power supply my house mate purchased a month ago, this seems the case.

So, I know that i definitely need a new power supply, that's a given.

However im thinking about a cheeky upgrade i maybe able to sneak in here, and i was thinking about the graphics card. I haven't got a lot of money at the moment so my budget at most is about 250, 200 if possible. Im looking for card that will offer the most improvement over my 8800 gtx (which to its defence has really, REALLY earned it pay) but wont cost the earth. I know that if i spend too much on a card, its power will be throttled by the processor, but for now I want a card that will give improvement whilst still being light on the wallet.

I am open to suggestions, i did have my eye on this

Any advice would massively appreciated...

What res do you play at?

The 460 should fit the bill, not sure what the performance difference is on the 2gb vs 1gb cards.

Cheers for the advice guys.

I wish i could afford to update the rest of my system, but touch wood it really does well considering its age, and for now I think ill just pop a new graphics card in there.

MASSIVE BUMP

ahem, hello again, so im about to invest in the upgrade i mentioned earlier on, but I now have some more money to play with. All in all i have about 600 pound to play with, so...

I want to go for a gtx 460, im just not entirely sure which one to shoot for? anyone suggest the "best" one?...

Also i decided to nab this for the rest of my systems upgrade..

Once again, any advice or tips would be really appreciated at this time. Thanks again.

NO!!! don't do it.

multiple reasons why,

Find another 750w psu on OCUK website for the same price, you wont, theres a reason for this.

A cheap 750w PSU will not make its rated power, probably manage less than halve.

You really going to trust your £570 components with an item costing £30? (this doesnt include the CORSAIR CX400W which is a quality psu for £32 but is 400w)

Everyone else on these forums will agree with me.

Buy a PSU from a reputable manufacturer, such as, OCZ, CORSAIR, ANTEC, ENERMAX, XFX

is 500w really enough though? i would have thought around 650 maybe...

yep, plenty for the GTX460 and that overclocked bundle you linked too.

iv just bought a "Titan Nero" AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 250 3.00GHz DDR3 System
motherboard - Asus M4A78LT-M 760G (Socket AM3) DDR3 & gfx card - Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 512MB GDDR3. Iv heared this card is ok but not great, is it capable of playing new releases for example, f1 2010 & cod black ops (when its out) id be looking to upgrade it (the gfx card) at around xmas but which one would be the best for me? looking to spend around £150 . thanks
