He has a 4TB External USB Seagate HDD, and last night it would sort of disappear from File Explorer, but the Disk Management was able to see it fine.

He says it's not the power saving options in control panel, so I am stumped. He has tried both ports on the Motherboad and the 4 up front (Phanteks Enthoo Pro).

He has had it for about 6 months, any ideas why it would randomly.. go?

I think it has it own software like Samsung's SSD's do, any options in there perhaps?

Thanks.

First thing I would do it copy any important data from it in case it's a enclosure or hdd problem.

I have the 3tb version and had no problems, maybe run a hdd check and try changing the power plan to high performance instead and see if that helps. Maybe try another pc is possible as well

Check event viewer, system tab, see if it has any disk errors.

If it does, make sure you have a backup of the data (I'm sure you do already), then RMA the device.

Hi, digitalx. We are sorry to hear about the trouble your stepdad is experiencing with his external drive disappearing! First off, we second what others here have said about copying/backing up any important data first and foremost before moving forward. Then, as ED209 mentioned, you can see if the issue is the same on another PC if possible. You can download and use Seagate's SeaTools software here to run tests on the drive to look into its health. If needed, you can also check on any potential warranty information here. Let us know how this works out for you!

Sorry, forgot to check this thread. I think his other drives are full, hence him buying this one. He has another PC with Win 10 on, ill get him to check it ASAP. Thanks for the tool link.
