Not sure what they're called...but they simulate walking, up steps. I don't have room for a treadmill.

Question is, are they any good or will i end up with mammoth calf muscles!? If i get one from the local argos will that suffice or am i asking for trouble buying cheap?

I don't always feel like going out to walk...so am after an alternative.

Thanks.

I go on them occasionally at the gym when I go with my girlfriend. I *think* I recall them working my quads more than my calves, not quite sure. But yes you will probably get mammoth legs if you use one for 30mins a day.

You won't get mammoth legs by using a stepping machine.

I presume you want to get fitter or lose fat.

Steppers are cardio work, they get your heart bumping - they make you sweat. Which in turn burns calories and, with a controlled calorie intake, results in weight loss.

Do you want to lose fat? What are your goals?

Chances are you will get bored of using the same machine, in the same spot, day in day out.

Have you considered a gym membership?

Also "sometimes I do not feel like running" will probably translate in to "sometimes I do not feel like using that bloody machine" if you go ahead with the purchase and same mental attitude!

Let us know your goals, current status, and lets go from there :)

Current status: overweight
Goal: lose that weight

I ride my bike every now and then (gonna try on some SPDs this week), but need to make it more regular...perhaps devise a plan of some sort. LIke you say, i don't like doing the same stuff all the time so thought this might be a good alternative; chuck in front of the TV and watch a film while doing it or something...

Probably the response you expected, but a gym membership sounds like a good move for you. Not only will it get you sweating, but it could become a routine, something you just do as part of your day.

The variety offered at the gym should keep you going as well - particularly if you get in to lifting (heavy) weights. Which, contrary to popular belief, is awesome for fat loss!

Get you diet nailed, force yourself to do something at least 5 days a week and you will see changes FAST. Once things start happening in the mirror you will be hungry for more success.
