hi guys, rite, i was just investigating whether to upgrade my monitors(to 4k) and GPU

monitors aside for now.

the only issue is anything i have seen in the price range seems to be out gunned by the 290x/280x

being a nvidia fanboy i didnt want to go to the dark side.

i am still unsure if i want to currently upgrade to 4k, or make a moderate investment for the next 18 months, then try again then when 120hz may just be coming on the market.

just putting the feelers out seeing what is available

then again, do i simply SLI my current GTX660

as you maybe able to tell, i quickly get out of my dept with the sea of options.

CURRENT SPECS

intel core i5-3570k 3.40ghz (ivybridge) socket lga1155 processor (77w)
cp-404-in

corsair vengeance red 8gb (2x4gb) ddr3 pc3-17100c11 2133mhz dual channel kit (cmz8gx3m2a2133c11r)
my-321-cs

gigabyte z77x-d3h intel z77 (socket 1155) ddr3 motherboard
mb-390-gi

MSI GTX 660 TWINFROZR III / OC 2GB

(i am aware RAM is being under-clocked by MB)

any input or combinations are most welcome

Rich

you wont be going 4k with sli 660gtx or one 290.

you ideally need two top end cards. also atleast4gb mem.

titanfall at 4k = 4.5gb ram.

Wait for 8 series if lookig at 4K, 2Gb isn't going to cut it at all.

8 series? new gen 8 series AMD?

i dont think i worded myself correctly DG, i wasnt trying to SLI so i can squeeze out 4k (Display Output (Max Resolution) 2560x1600)

i was going to go for the cheaper option of SLI current rig to satisfy the hungry money spending nerd in me, inturn if i SLI'd i would match my current 120hz montior as i have mixed sizes currently

May I ask why you wouldn't switch to AMD? Dont tell me Drivers? :p

now ur going to make me look silly ;)

i dont have a real reason TBH, it is slightly drivers, but im mainly moaning about carp, i dont like the catalyst center (stupid yes iknow)

but as AP says "that's not my bag baby" -- but i can be swayed to buy AMD its been atleast 10 years since i have touched a dedicated AMD GPU

I can never understand how someone can reject a vendor they have not used for 10 years, on top of that not even have a reason they are sure of for it.

No disrespect. :)

maybe just a reason i dont want to share ;)

(but seriously...) yes i do see your point though, why i said shankly1985 was about to make me look silly ;)

looks like if the red army is superior i maybe changing my tact

I buy mainly panasonic tv's because i like them, i like samsung aswell but have not bought any of there tv's yet, if i were to buy a tv today it would be a panasonic one, its of no concern to anyone else why people buy what people buy.

I like nvidia cards and own one, i like amd cards, if i were to buy a card today to play the games i play i would buy an nvidia card.

If the games i play ALL ran better on AMD i would buy an amd card.

So richyrichuk, i would wait if you can and see what the new nvidia cards are like ( 750 really? ) or amd's if they are releasing anything half decent ( 285 really? ) and if they do not then buy what you fancy.

......buy what you fancy.

cool, thanks man, makes me feel better for being a little daft over this :) and yes well that's the thing i simply do not have the knowledge to make the call on which runs better with what, and i suppose, only listing my current and most likely future games im going to play to a person with an overall view of these things would be able to answer that..all in all a little flimsy question im trying to ask.

i think a bit clearing understanding of the current market of GPU's will help me be a little more clear with my next purchase.

just checked.

to match my current monitor like for like (not made anymore) im talking £100+ for a 24" 120hz out of date LCD (Acer GD245HQ -- (known issues))

then again £120+ for a medium level GPU to SLI current system

sooo £250 all in all for what i dont know will be that much of a upgrade from my system, really worth the cash for SLI GTX 660?

again im not sure of the ratio, but i am aware TWICE the cards isnt TWICE the power *insert angry noob at pc world screaming at spotty teenager*

8 series? new gen 8 series AMD?

Nvidia 8 series is inbound and there is also supposedly a new AMD gpu announcement tomorrow.

AMD CP is getting revamped and due to land any week now, if that's of any interest.

Regarding drivers, both can have hiccups, but overall I'd say go with your gut regardless the vendor.

Even sli 660 would struggle to get 120fps with highest settings at 1080p in most games.

I would look at higher resolution 60hz monitor and put in either 290 or 780. 290s are going at such a stunning price right now.

Do you play meny Physx games? That's all you will really loose going to amd.

Unless you plan on buying a gsync monitor or want something really niche I wouldn't buy a monitor at the moment.

A pair of 660's and a 1080 144hz gsync monitor might be a decent pairing as another alternative for you.

Tbh the near future of the gpu market looks boring :(

Regarding 144hz monitors, wouldn't it still be smoother than a 60hz screen with a minimum of 60fps and average of 100fps on a single card?

Alrighty then, Im sold, now if only there was a 1440 144hz monitor for under £400

I just cannot change from 1920x1200 to 1920x1080 and to be fair i have a samsung sync master 2443 i only need a G and it could be a GsyncMaster!
