Stinger DSI

Is there really still demand for these? With up to date and well populated fixed and mobile camera databases available for both portable and integrated navigation systems these days I thought these things had died a death.

Edit: What the hell?!? It's THREE THOUSAND QUID?!?!?!

Not a chance is it worth that much. I expected it to be one of the insurance protection schemes that cover your transportation costs if you were to be banned, but it's just a detector and jammer (not that the jammer is legal in the uk).
Massively overpriced and pretty much defunct now with most modern satnav units or applications.

It's been bought mainly for it's jammer capability (and speed camera database but as said, pretty much covered by decent satnavs nowadays)

It's to replace a Blinder M10 twin which has very bulky sensors and hard to fit/hide.

I cannot even begin to imagine why it would be worth spending 3 grand on this. I mean.. really?

It's 'been bought' - so you already have it?

No, considered. I was given the task to research it today as a purchase for the new car next week.

The Blinder M10 twin has seemed to work well for the last 3 years on both his cars (no tickets)

However, he thinks he needs something better????

Pretty sure it might be better than the Blinder system but not convinced it's 10x better.

However, as he said "How much is his licence worth?"

Most people here have managed to get no tickets in the last 3 years either without needing to spend £3k on something like this (and, on a private test road obviously, without needing to drive like a granny...).

Unless he drives everywhere at 150mph it would take more than a few tickets for him to lose his license anyway!

????

Flawed logic aside, if he really thinks he needs to spend £3k to keep his license, maybe he should consider speeding less?

Well he has spent the last 3 years driving an Aston Martin Vanquish and then a Lamborghini Mercialago at silly speeds...................

And one ticket past 100 mph loses your licence doesn't it?

:O Thats ridiculous! As much as I swear by my speed camera detector and would reccomend it to anyone, I wouldnt dream of spending 100 times the amount I spent. This is before you even get to the legality of jammers.

I have a Snooper Neo S2 hard wired into my car and its a cracking little bit. If your approaching a speed camera and are under the limit it flashes blue and is very quiet, if your over the limit its red and very loud, simples.

I'm not sure I even see the point of laser detection any more, I'm so unfussed about it mines actually wired out of sight from outside the car and wouldnt have a chance of picking up a laser. I honestly cant remember the last time I saw one. They seem to have completley been replaced by mobile camera phones which are only as good as the database your updating from.

Not going to happen. First time he ever took me out in the Lambo we were doing 130mph before we had left the village 30 mph signs......

Ah, I see.

'Worst my Dad is loaded' thread ever. I mean as if you really expect anyone here to have a £3k radar jammer anyway.

He sounds like a massive liability. 130 in a 30mph village, what a stand up guy.

Thing is, it's a jammer not a detector (although it does beep and warn you). Detectors are all well and good but if going fast, by the time the detector has gone off, it will be too late.

Static cameras everybody knows where they are, it's the mobile ones which are an issue.

He's not my dad, my dad is poor. He's my boss.

He's not a stand up guy as far as that goes and I agree with you. He's very scary to be a passenger with and quite irresponsible. Fair enough he is a very, very good driver but not everybody is on the road. When you are going silly fast speeds, you don't know if somebody is going to pull out on you etc.

And I am not, and will defend how he drives but I certainly can't change the way he does.

But the mobile ones are almost never lasers any more? I cant remember the last time I saw a bobby holding a radar / laser gun that these devices can jam. Every single time the mobile forces are out round here, its mobile cameras mounted in the back of a van.

My understanding is that these work in exactly the same way as a normal camera, taking a picture of the driver and jamming would have no effect?

So hence why it's not worth the extra money and he may as well stay with what he has. Thanks. That's the kinda of info I wanted/needed.

How do you think the van knows how fast the car is travelling? Using laser. In the back of a van is a man with a device which first measures the speed of the car, and a photo is taken if its speeding.
