looks really nice and smooth, mdf could be a useful material for me to practice on my case. im guessing the router makes it a lot easier for cutting?

the only cutting i did with the router was the drive bay opening in the front panel. obviosly i used the router for rounding the edges.

i used the chopsaw to do all cutting on the side panel piece internal and external, i could have used the chop saw to cut out the drive bay openings. router does a neater job especialy on thicker materials but its a PIA to set up

you could do all the cutting with a handsaw, if you drill a few 10mm holes in a line so you can start the teeth on internal openings etc. i finished internal openings on side panel mdf piece with the hand saw

also a jig saw would do all of this if you take youre time and just let the saw do the work

if you have a circular saw you could do all cuts with this, just plunge it like a chop saw for internal cuts, this is something i do regular when cutting holes in floors etc.

im thinking of sanding the marks off the front port with my dremmel rubbing it down and revarnishing, but i might just give both pieces a light sanding then spray them gloss red or blue

Red sounds good, quite unusual however I wouldn't go with gloss personally... BMW Imola red looks quite nice, gloss can end up looking a bit like plastic in colours other than black.
