I have recently acquired a Lian Li V2000b and will be water cooling an E6600, GTS8800 etc with the Apex ultra + kit

Now, I'm new to this game but I believe that, despite the w/c, you still need some fan-action?

My question is....

Will the stock fans with the Lian Li suffice, with or without the fans that come with the Apex Ultra + kit, or do I need to purchase any more fans?

Bearing in mind the w/c, I'm going for "as quiet as possible"

(but still want to o/c :D )

Reading a bit of my Swiftech user manual last night, and it appears that the "cage thing" that houses the rad on the back of your PC already has fans attached.

So would I do away with the Lian Li stock fans that came with the case altogther?

And does anyone know how noisy these Swiftech fans are?

Water cooling doesn't cool anything except what's under the blocks so you still need the standard case fans to generate air movement over the HDD etc.

Ok... I can see that...

..so do you think the fans which come with the case will make a racket and I should replace them or just stick with them?

Well, the only person who can tell if they are noisy is you, surely? Try them and see what you think. They come with 4-pin molex adaptors which makes them very easy to 5V mod. Mine run at 5V and they are very nearly inaudible.

I think you'll find they are about as loud as the water-cooling fans at 12V. If you really want silent, then you ought to look at a Zalman Reserator 2 or a pair of Preytek Serenity coolers. These are fanless and cost about the same. The Preyteks are particularly interesting as you can buy the reservoir/cooler separately from the pumps and blocks so you can buy Swiftech or EK blocks, Laing pumps and Preytek coolers and, with almost no effort at all, you have a truly effective silent system. I built a triple reserator system that cooled EVERYTHING including the HDD, PSU and RAM and other than a little gurgle when you turned it on, or what sounded like a hurricane when the optical drives spun up, it was absolutely silent.

I'm currently running a semi-passive 2.7GHz E4300 system with the Thermalright HR-01 ducted into the rear 120mm fan. That is the only fan in the system as the graphics are passive. It runs just fine, and it's very, very quiet.

I have heard the stock lian-li fans are quite noisy. I didnt even bother trying them and switched to sharkoon silent 1000's.
