The stock heatink on the wolfdales are about an inch thick and idle i have comp temps of 40oC!!!

That both with the pre applied paste and then some mx-1 i had which is now at 38oc. The ambient temp is cool very cool.

Could anyone recommend a good heatink where I dont have to oput a back plate on (its a pain in the ass)

Yeah it's a decent little cooler, the Coolermaster Hyper TX is just as good though for around £8.
What are your load temps? Because idle means nothing really, if they're <65c I wouldn't worry unless you will be overclocking.

And if you think they're small check out the e4xx series Celeron coolers :p

hmm looks nice but i dont have £40 lol ive orderd the frezer 7, i had a freezer 64 for my old comp and it proformed well.

I suppose i just forgot how bad stock heatsinks really are.

Stock heatsinks for the Wolfdales are garbage.
I couldn't believe the carpness of it when i opened the box.

Freezer 7 works OK.
Tuniq also works well obviously, but requires the MB out of the case to fit the backplate.

If Overclocking
You won't see low temps on a Wolf with any heatsink, but the better quality ones will allow stable operation above 4Ghz.

thanks for the recommendations.

I ended up with the freezer 7 due to the ease of use and the fact i have used the freezer range before and all I can say is wow.

E8400 at stock using orthos is at comfy 42Degrees C thats a good 26 degrees cooler than the stock heatsink.

Seems intel are suing the same heastink on the wolfdales as the e4xx cpu's

AMD 4400x2 heatpipe cooler was great, basically identical to the Zalman 8000 which is £30.

all stock heatsinks are perfectly fine, as long as you don't overclock, processors aren't sold to be overclocked and intel/AMD don't make there cooling for that, don't forget that :p

Its LGA775 so I believe they do. I think the TR Ultra extreme 120 is considered top dog at the moment. Sadly I don't think one will fit in my case, so I'm going to go for the TR 90 alternative.
