Stock HSF, no OC and got temp warning...

I assumed it was stock for this cpu? Does it not ramp itself up...turbo boost or something chavvy like that, lol.

Its not like I set the CPU speed. At idle its only 1.6Ghz.

Wife is now asking why base unit is in middle of dining room floor again......

Weird, not complaining but dont want CPU to kill itself, so why does mine ramp up to 4.3 GHz? Hopefully it wont be an issue but just seems strange to be running that high if its not supposed to.

I built the system as my old unit was showing its age...probably less than 6 months ago I guess.
Im not in to OC'ing as I really dont have the setup or experience for it. Most BIOS stuff was set to auto or default.

Will go in to BIOS again and check my settings.

Quick question, what setting would cause the turbo boost to over boost? Pretty sure right from day one CPU has run at 4.3 GHz under load.

I'm no overclocker so can't really help. What little I know leads me to believe it would be hard to get a 4.3GHz overclock by mistake. Seems like more than something you might have mistakenly done in BIOS. If you can get that good an overclock by accident you need to start overclocking for a living! ;)

Hopefully someone will be along who knows this cpu and can give you more help.

OK,
So I go into the BIOs and its this funky Asus front screen and I have it set to normal, not performance or energy efficient.
Go in to the advanced section and I see on the AI Tweaker page that the system is set to Manual giving a desired speed of 4326, BCLK of 103 and multiplier of 42. Now I see where the speed jump was coming from.
So I reset the system to Auto and it Sets it at 100 and 42, giving me a speed of 4200.

Should I try to manually set this to 100 and 37 to get the specified 3700.

There was also a setting for XMP but was unsure what this was. Would it be worth me starting a new thread on how to set this up.

I would at least use the energy efficient setting as it throttles CPU when it's not in use. This significantly reduces the amount of power your system uses at idle.

Good.

Can I borrow your overclock gremlins for a few days? If you can catch them please put them in a waterproof box. I will pay post both ways. I want to overclock my 980.. and my gremlins are having too much fun screwing up my 5.1 sound to help me overclock. :D

No Worries, all boxed up. They dont look very happy....in fact...omg, what have I done????? Waterproof means air tight......they are dead!!!! You killed them doyll!!!!! hope you are happy! lol.

Darn, now how do I overclock?
I didn't do it, you did! All I did was ask!!
And besides I believe there's bounty on computer gremlin.. and if there isn't there should be!
