Stockton

Good point - ideally a short commute, <30mins. Going to be there for 3 years.

And where are you?

Excellent, thanks.

North Stockton I'll be working in

Wynyard has some lovely properties! But I'll be renting for 3 years. And don't have a 7 figure bank account.

Up in the middle of Northumberland.

I love it up here, came up 5 years ago and don't intend to move back south. Northumberland is beautiful. Spent a few months with the air ambulance last year, absolutely stunning part of the country

Really appreciate all the input, thank you.

I have a budget of £800 /month, which looks like it should get a decent property in most places, especially Ingleby Barwick, Norton and Fairfield. I'm not a Fri night guy any more so as long as I won't get stabbed on a walk to the shop, I'm happy

Having lived in Selby, York & Manchester, I can say Stockton is like Selby, some of it looks like a dump but to be honest it's not any worse than most places, the people up there seem to have more conversation, there seems to be odd characters in the town and an issue with immigration there, I'd certainly not choose it over anywhere I've lived, actually it might be on par with Selby, they're the same sort of towns really.

The good thing is prices are low, 800 quid a month I bet you could be lord of the manor up there!

To be honest if you've got a job up there you could actually live in York and commute up there with the budget, the train fares are surprisingly cheap compares to equivalent distanced journeys.

My girlfriends is actually from slap bang in the middle of Stockton so is quite the expert lol, where about are you going to be working?

At the hospital

I've drove through Stockton once.
What a dump.

Redcar's cheap to live, but Stockton takes that one step further. The Keepmoat new builds for example, ours was 99500 for our 2 bed terrace, at the stockton site it's ~90K and infact a three bed end of terrace is at that 100K price point.

It's crazy cheap to buy here it seems!

Stockton is **** as is most of teesside. Yarm is nice enough, but don't know what it costs to live there. Plus it's full of ponces. What kind of things do you like to do for hobbies/social etc.

Luckily I'm quite boring - I'd rather go away for a weekend than local stuff, and new job won't give me a huge amount of social time anyway!

Stockton is pretty dire. Some of the surrounding villages are nice though. I've lived in Sedgefield for 10+ years and it's a great area. If you need any info about the region, let me know.

We were looking at Sedgefield, looks like a lovely place - just no properties to rent there!

Thanks chaps, much appreciated

Oh god, I'm addicted to parmos. And all i've ever had are imitation Newcastle ones.

Best parmo is from Express Pizzeria on Norton High Street. They also do the best garlic dip.

I live 16 miles away but still make this my choice destination for parmo on the odd occasion I have one.

I've added it to the to-do list, thanks!

I live in Norton nice place

Any areas to avoid?

If you are looking at ingelby then consider the commute.

The roads around there really are at breaking point so i imagine it would become annoying really quickly if you worked regular hours eg 9-5

If i was on my own I would be looking at any of the many quaint villages or a maybe even a yarm flat if more outgoing . But with family/kids then Fairfield , eaglescliffe, Norton are nice enough and cheap

The whole Teesside area gets a load of stick but it's cheap , people are friendly and the surrounding areas are incredible

Appreciate that, thanks. I commute from Jesmond to Sunderland at the moment, 40 mins average so as long as it's under that I'm happy

I know Wynyard was brought up quite early, but its also worth checking if there's anything suitable available in Wolviston - its a nice enough village between the A689/A19 junction and Billingham and you'd be on a sub 10mins commute to North Tees traffic pending, decent weather its very commutable by bike and a nice ride down Wynyard/Durham road, which I would seriously consider doing if you need to commute at rush hours, school run hours or plan to park a car at North Tees, which is a complete nightmare to get to from any direction at these times by car.

Great, thanks, I'll have a look. I'm hoping we'll get a staff parking space...

For proper parmos in Newcastle try Toros and pizza and co. They are just as good as Middlesbrough ones and I've had my fair share lol.

Yarm is nice not sure about the people there!

You star, I haven't tried these. I'll get one on Thursday

God that's all rather depressing!!!
Perhaps we'll stick to outside of Stockton.
I'm looking at Ingleby still - you can get so much for your money there!
