Stolen Bike

We had a Vauxhall Victor engine & transmission nicked from the backyard. It weighed a bloody ton and and was a seriously awkward thing to lift and carry, yet within 6 hours it was gone!

thats not too good. though just chaining it to nothing wont stop them. If there is no solid lamposts or the like to chain it to you could look at ground anchors, atlest next time they will need to cut the chain before sticking it in there van.

As far as i know the stearing locks can be broken very easily.

The same happened to me. I had a Clio 16V engine and gearbox in my back yard , it took 3 of us to lift it out of the van yet within 4-5hrs of getting it, some scum had nicked it. I dunno how cos it was flippin heavy!

I thought maybe 2/3 people putting it in the back of a van would have been likely.

Have you spoken to the police/your neighbours yet?

thats what my money would be on.

Only needs 2 or 3 blokes to be able to lift a bike, and you can just lift it up silently and place it in the back of a transit.

Nobody would hear or see a thing if the transit pulled up slowly and quietly. Bad idea leaving it on the road not secured to anything (not that you could have done anything about it mind :( )

no ground anchor?

not even sure if they actually help to be honest, if someone is determined enough to get a bike a little anchor won't help.
Im always paranoid about my bike being stolen as this area isn't great.

sorry to hear about it either way.

I used to keep my motocross bike in the house, wouldn't even trust leaving it in the garage. I would come back clean, polish and would be in the lounge. The wife used to go mad about it but I got rid of her and the bike stayed :p
