On the M62 today, a large stone hit my windscreen causing quite a large stone-chip, directly in my line of sight which is killing my OCD.

Is this either repairable or going to require a replace?

Not sure if that kind of damage is repairable. The glue they use is designed to seep in to cracks, not repair surface damage :/

I hope it can be repaired, if not can I force insurance to replace the screen for a stone chip? It's pretty large and in my direct vision so really affecting my concentration.

I believe if it's affecting your ability to drive in any way they should replace it, it also has the risk of failing MOT and/or developing into a crack. You may have to pay an excess mind depending on your policy.

Who is your insurance with?

Excess I don't mind, just don't want to pay the full £1,500 whack. Insurance is provided by Ageas.

I had a windscreen replaced on my car without any hassle at all as it was full of tiny chips, only cost me £50. I told the insurer and they took my word for it. This was through a specialist broker though, who are much nicer to deal with.

Should be fine then. Don't see why they would deny the claim and I think it'll be £50 or below overall. Worth it if it's distracting you

When you book with auto glass they ask for a description and will suggest best course of action.

If they think it needs a new screen they will have one on the van and they come to fit it they think it can be repaired they will do that.

Their rules. What they don't state is what they *will not* repair, and *that* happens to be quite a lot (the damage has to meet their repair criteria).

The issue with their repair criteria is twofold; the equipment they use (restricts certain repairs) and the repairer confidence/experience (the repair technician will be penalised for failed repairs).

From what I can see in the image, the damage is on the surface, IOW, it is not structural. More of a cosmetic repair. I would repair that but I cannot see the exact position in relation to the driver and the wiper sweep.

The position is almost bang centre of the drivers side of the windscreen.

Many repairers won't touch it, and many won't know what to do with it other than squirt a bit of gear on it and hope for the best.

It looks very much like a scuff; once repaired, it will have a watermark-like appearance, or like a droplet of water.

Tell Autoglass it's a large crack and then the day before they are due to arrive throw a small child at the screen.

You then then look forward to Autoglass' standard 3 visits before they have the right screen and then another visit to resolve issues created by the 3rd visit.

They did an injection repair and buff today. It's gone down a fair bit and taking shine off it, I'll see if I can live with it for a few days otherwise it will be replaced.

I am getting a windscreen replacement on Tuesday. A large stone or something flew up and chipped the screen heavily, with small cracks coming off it. Lucky for me it was not in my field of view.
