Trying to install XP x64 and it keeps bluescreening with a "STOP: 0x0000007B" error...

Anyone know what could cause this?

EDIT: I've slipstreamed SP2 in and my SATA drivers, could that be causing this?

Can you set your SATA controller to compatible mode in the BIOS?

The XP installation is probably not picking up the slipstreamed SATA drivers, you will probably need to put them onto a floppy disk and press F6 to specify additional drivers when loading the XP installation or change the SATA controller to compatible mode until you get your drivers installed in Windows itself.

Had this error at work, although the more telling info is the line above it that will describe the error.

Basically, its the beginning of the end of your HDD.

STOP 7B is usually caused by an incompatible HD controller driver.

As Dappy says check that your storage driver matches your HD controller and that the controller is in the correct mode - so if your SATA controller is in RAID mode ensure that you are loading the RAID version of the driver.

I doubt this is being caused by a faulty HDD, but to be sure just get the manufacturer diag utility for your drive and test it (you should be able to find a link in the sticky in the hard drives forum)

If you're still getting this problem post your system details and I'm sure someone here can point you to the right driver.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte p35-ds4, and I'm using the Jmicron (orange) connector and driver...

This machine has no CD drive tho, I'm trying to use a USB stick instead but this may be what is causing the problem. :(

Right now I'm trying an unmolested copy of Xp x64 and seeing if it gives the same error... That way I'll know if it's my slipstreamed SATA drivers causing the problem.

Also, I cannot run chkdsk, as the XP setup doesn't get that far...

Ok, I've tried it with no SATA drivers, and now I'm getting "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME"

STOP 0x000000ED

I this most likely caused from using my USB stick, I'll have to install a CD drive and try again. :(
