Why in the blue hell is everyone still refeering to current gen systems (360,ps3 & Wii) as next gen!?!?! Whats the next gen going to be called in a few years time? Next Next Gen?

Sorry to rant but everytime i hear someone call current gen systesm next gen, it annoys the hell out of me.

What are your thoughts?

My thoughts: You need to calm down :p

+1, some people get confused thought, most of the time people talk about what gaming will be like in the next generation of graphics/gameplay, if you dont like the word so much then i suggest you dont use the console gaming/pc gaming section, this post wont change anything.

I hate the term next gen anyway. People always take it to mean more than it should. For example the Wii is just as much next gen as the PS3. It's still the next generation of consoles, even if it's not as big a technological leap from the GC as the PS3 is from the PS2.

IMO its next gen when its not out yet, and current gen when it is. Although if games are using a new technology, then i suppose its next gen material.....

My thoughts are:

1) Nobody cares
2) If this is all you've got to moan about, start paying council tax..
3) See a shrink

So considering that the PS2 is STILL in wide purchase circles, how does one differentiate between "Last Gen", "Current Gen" and "Next Gen" between both PlayStations?

Next gen will always be referred to as next-gen... it's the bog-standard tern for new technology and i'm not sure why people seem to have a hard time understanding it. Rocket science it is not.

Yeah the point I was going to make. When someone posted the sales figures last week, the PS2 was still selling hugely, way more than the PS3.

Its just a term that struck when the 360/PS3 where being announced and the promises they made which have not really made a big leap in the generation.

Its just like saying it "the next generation of kids" etc.
