I'm likely to want to pickup a 3080 or maybe a new AMD Navi at some point but I'm looking to do my PC build now (maybe waiting for a new AMD 5700/5800 in early November).

I was wondering though; given the stock situation - what would be a decent stop gap card for now that I could maybe try and source used; even if for now I was happy maybe with just 1440p?

Hi bud exactly in the same situation I have a 3080 paid preordered on here but 1250 in the que so apart from a cpu that will be either a 3900x or wait for 5900x I have all new pc parts plus case just waiting to be built.
I gamed at 1440p/144hz when I had my 1080ti and then sold the card pre launch 3080 (terrible mistake).
So cardless since then so need a stop gap card till my msi 3080 finally arrives.
I was thinking of just looking for a used 980ti so I shouldn’t loose too much in reselling it when the time comes (if I can get one for around £130).

RX480/580 from an online trade in place for around £95 with 2yrs warranty, i think they have r9 290's for around £65.

Maybe even a 970/980 if you want nvidia

Definite 970 for £70 you won't lose any resale on it... or if you want more oomph 980 Ti oc the hell out of it and have it touching stock 1070 Ti performance which isn't bad if you can get one for around the £120 Mark...

I stupidly sold my 980ti before the launch. Borrowing an rx570 for the moment. It’s a decent card. Anything like that will be find for 1080p or playing older games like I am for now. Half life 2 never gets old !

A second hand 1060, 1070 or 2060 will do the job and resell as well without much loss in price for the wait for your 3080

Same situation and I was trying to limit my spend to £150-180 but spent just under £200 on a RX 5600XT which is able to run Horizon Zero Dawn 3440 x 1440 with decent settings @ 50-60 fps. My alternative was the 1660 super but the RX 5600XT is just that much better.

I also had an RX 580 for a couple of weeks and that was more suited to 1920 x 1080 maybe 2560 x 1440 with acceptable frame rates.

So assuming I may be waiting weeks/months now I'm not that compromised.

A certain site having a sale today also does 20% off items in the warehouse.

Thanks everyone; food for thought; I bought a few bits from a certain site yesterday for my new build (SSD mainly) but did have a look at the warehouse offers - didn't buy anything in the end.
Will be ordering the rest of the stuff over the next couple of weeks with an eye to the new AMD launch the first week of November so plenty of time for me to find something!

I’m using a 980ti on a 1440p monitor for the time being, decent card for the age tbh, having no major issues until cyberpunk launch’s... won’t be looking at getting a 30 series until later in the year, fairly pointless to a degree waiting in a queue when no one is really receiving any stock, especially if I was over 1000 in that queue lol.
