Wouldn't it be easier if everybody put the type of pc they're spec'ing in the title. i.e 'spec me a gaming pc £***' or 'spec me a video editing pc' that way I can find the advice given easier and maybe you'd benefit too!

just a thought

Meh, all I'd like to know in the title is that it's a spec thread and an estimated budget. If the poster wants to include any extra usage information more to him.

But for me to get access to your advice is what I mean- so as to make better informed decisions. I don't really care about gaming machines you see...

In my opinion I do present the

Components of a perfect "Spec Me" thread:
  • Budget
  • Use of machine
    • CAD
    • Gaming
    • General office/browsing
    • 3D rendering
    • Power office, e.g. heavy database work
    • Etc.
  • What's needed
    • OS
    • Keyboard/mouse
    • Monitor
    • Any other components that're going to be recycled
  • Resolution of existing monitor, if applicable
  • Specs of any equipment that's to be recycled, if applicable
  • Time frame of purchase, if the machine won't be purchased for 3 months it usually changes everything.
  • All in a clear, concise format. I don't have all day to read an OP ;)

I find that titles in general can be rubbish throughout the forum. It doesn't help when trying to search for existing threads and so creates a higher liklihood that people will repeat topics...and then get flamed for doing so..

Basically all you need is the budget, the uses and the required/existing parts (if any). Beyond that it can be helpful to give more information but I'm not too bothered as it isn't necessary for me to put something together. :)
