Stop/start a service using a batch file

I'd like to create a batch file which stops a service - then xcopies a dir onto another server, then restarts the service once the copy is complete.

Is there anyway to do this using batch files or will I have to bury my head in a Pearl book?

Someone suggested putting a pause of xxxx seconds to allow the copy to complete but this doesn't sounds reliable!

Just use:

net stop <servicename>
xcopy blah bah
net start <servicename>

Easy peasy
