Stopping smoking thread

Efour, you know I actually admire you. The consistency with your sarcastic/passive-agressive/moronic posts is something to behold :p:p

hahaha its not easy, thanks ! :)

But seriously...

I quit smoking. I know its hard i had cravings for months after and even now years later i sometimes fantasise about a ciggy

My Mum has smoked for over 35 years, and she's given up for a couple of months now thanks to e-cigs. I can't really explain how pleased I am about it. I don't care if it's replacing one addiction with another, it's broken her cycle of addiction and decades worth of habit.

Anyone trying to pluck up the courage to do it, please do it. Chances are, as well as all the benefits to yourself discussed in here, you will be making someone else really very happy.

Can relate to that, even through vaping every now and again I'd crave a cig. Never gave in though.

Someone once said to me that an ex-smoker is still a smoker, they just don't do it anymore (she sounded much more profounded in the way she worded it), maybe some truth in there.

Told my kids last night, they hadn't realised I'd not had a smoke since Saturday. The two youngest cried and hugged me, which was a bit of a "well-up" moment.

Really glad I started this thread, as there's some good advice and supportive messages to all in here. Now we just need some more letterbox, pasty, and tin foil hat quotes, and it'll feel like GD :D

Keep it up! I quit and then went to E-cigs after quitting (backwards I know) but I just missed smoking too much I enjoy the pleasure and the self indulgence too much be it pipes , cigs, shisha, cigars. I only use it in the evening as my treat. I only drink water so at least I'm not a caffeine addict aswell

Got the Mrs' dad to start vaping after smoking for 25+ years, he only had 2 real smokes yesterday down from 20-30 a day. He is starting to dislike the smell and taste of cigarettes now he is starting to get his palette back.

too those quitting, Keep at it! and keep reminding yourself why you are doing it!

Shared a cig with my wife last night. Half a fag in three days, I'm not letting this break me. We're both trying at the same time which makes it even harder, especially because she seems to have the willpower of a kid in a candy store (well, she married me didn't she :p).

The weekend is going to be tough, if we make it past that, then we're doing well. I don't have high hopes however.

Keep busy would be my advice, last thing you want to do is sit around thinking about it.

Get some plans in for the weekend - go do something different. And don't worry about a minor slip last night, look at how many you've not smoked, that's what I'm doing now.

Still think some of the best advice in here is to start thinking of yourself as a non-smoker... it's difficult, but I can see once that frame of mind sticks, everything should feel a lot easier.

Just out of interest why did you share it?

Next time she caves in, let her. But don't smoke yourself. Maybe she will then feel guilty for letting the team down and that could strengthen her resolve.

That's a very good point, hadn't thought of that.

In this case however, I'm just as guilty as she was :(

Gave up 3 years ago... best thing I ever did. Disgusting, expensive stinky habit.

Lets see how much I will save now... say £9 a pack.
£18 a day
£126 a week
£504 a month
£6048 a year!!!!!

I smoked for 25 years but lets say I started now and smoked 40 cigs a day for 25 years and they stayed at £9 a pack... (but they wont, they will just continue to get more expensive)... it would cost £151200. Shocking isn't it!

£18 a day! My god man, that's an absolute fortune. 40 cigs!!

Good luck to you all. I have a friend who switched to vaping and he loves it. He calls his vape the sonic screwdriver.

Gave up on 1st October after smoking for around 25 years, moved from 20 a day to vaping when/if needed, in the three months i have saved around £900.

It does feel weird not having to worry about running out of ciggies anymore, weird how much of a hold on your life it has, the local shop keeper thought i had moved house as not in there every day buying ciggies.

I'm not spending a fortune on vaping as i don't want to invest loads in it to then not want to give it up, i have two vaping kits, one i use day to day and one for spare in case the main one brakes but thats it. I know vaping is not fully quitting as im replacing one habit for another, but after so long smoking i needed to brake the actual smoking habit/cycle in a way that worked for me, im planning on dropping the level of nicotine im using over the year if not sooner, so will eventually be vape free too as i have no intention of vaping zero nicotine juice, the money i am saving is very noticeable and i also feel a lot healthier too, standing next to someone that has smoked absolutely stinks and i now know what i used to smell like to a non smoker, its weird.

Good luck to everyone that is trying to give up, no matter what your method is, stick at it :)

Yes, good luck all. The stopping is the easy part... the hard part is staying stopped! In fact, I shouldn't be wishing you good luck, it should be good willpower! ;) You CAN do it.

It took me 3 goes to finally stop. I couldn't do it cold turkey, I needed help from the doc. 1st and 2nd time were on patches and the plastic pipe, the 3rd time I used Champix. I did manage to stop the first time but stupidly started again when I went through a rough patch with my last job, the 2nd was a half hearted go at stopping.

Quit using the Allen Carr "Easy Way". Took a couple of reads for it all to sink in, but once it did, it really was easy - you just don't feel like you need to or want to smoke anymore. That was four and a half years ago now.

Anyway, good luck to everyone quitting. It can be done!

9 Years ago I stopped smoking after reading Allen Carr's book. Recommended for those that desire to stop.

Been off the cigarettes 1 year now and i feel better for it. Vaping was the way for me, it made it quite easy infact :D

Goodluck you can do it! There is no point in cigarettes you dont even get a high lol.. But seriously it's the worst drug of all only negatives no positives get the hell off them for you and your family's sake.

Well done for getting off the cigarettes. Are you still getting nicotine through vaping or have you quit nicotine altogether now?
