---> Stopping the Hard Disk Thrashing in Vista

I wouldn't really call system restore a "newbie" feature in the slightest.

I am not a newbie and have found it to be a very useful feature in both XP and Vista especially as I'm an nVidia user who tries out every BETA driver released monthly. System restore ensures a clean restoration should I want to revert back or should a BETA driver cause problems as has been the case twice recently.

FYI SR only runs when creating a restore point and not constantly like other services such as drive indexing etc.

it creates them when you install programs though, slowing that down (although i don't install programs that often anyway)

a driver cleaner program should do a lot more than system restore can (afaik)

A driver cleaner program is nothing like system restore because it won't restore your system back in the event of something going wrong (it's Windows, things do go wrong)

It also creates a restore point for software that makes changes to system files not small time software.
