HI all

i know vista does an auto defrag of the harddrives.

i dont really mind it doing this on my raid 0 raptors.

but im about to get a SSD which i will be using for some games and i know defrag can do more harm than good on SSD.

so can i stop it from defragging just that drive? if so how?

or do i have to stop it doing it all together? and if so how do i do that?

thanks all

Loki

Stop Vista defragging

As a blind guess that seemed to be spot on....

Control Panel ->
System and Maintenance ->
Administrative Tools ->
"defragment your hard drive"
You'll see the option to "Run..." unselect it

To stop it completely you need to remove it from the Task Scheduler

Control Panel ->
Administrative Tools -> Task Scheduler

Find it and delete it

Also if you are worried about constant access to the SSD then disabling drive indexing is a good idea too.
Right click on the drive -> properties and untick "index this drive for faster searching"

If you have installed SP1, you can control which drives are defragmented.

Control Panel ->
System and Maintenance ->
Administrative Tools ->
"defragment your hard drive"
"Select Volumes"
