Storage help

Hi all,


I currently have 2x 2TB samsung F4 drives which have the slow spin but eco what not feature and have been absolutely fine for storing all of my pics and backing up etc etc.

However since buying a GoPro I'm now taking more videos and timelapses rather than just point and shoot pics.

When transfer files into the gopro studio it takes an absolute age and I'm wondering if this is just down to the size of the files (1GB sometimes more, sometimes less) or down to the slow hard drives?

Anyway my real question is that they are nearly full and I'd rather not delete the backup of one just to keep filling it up with memories and random crap, so would a drive with a faster spin be more beneficial? I've noticed that OcUK don't sell the samsung drives anymore as was looking at maybe just getting another two but rather than filling up the inside of my PC with loads of drives I was tempted to get two new 4+ TB drives.

What would you recommend for fast transfers/read/writes but also quiet like the Samsung F4s ?

keep the samsungs,not much out there today as reliable,and they aitn slow for a 2tb drive

roughly 150mb read/write on an empty drive

could look at the hitachi or toshibe 4tb drives,seagate are a bit poo imo but upto you

I think I had a 250GB seagate back when 250 was HUGE and that died after 2 years (just outside of its warranty IIRC).


How would I know the read/write speed with any real accuracy? Currently just dragging files from the GoPros Memory Stick on to the hard drive and once I know what I want to keep I then copy those to the other drive but get no more than 60MB/sec tops and I'm sure that drops slowly as the transfer goes on.

Samsung F4 (seems okay)

Samsung Evo 500 (bit random)

I'm not really sure what I'm looking for but I think the larger file sizes were okay transfer speed wise on the F4. (Evo was just for comparison)


Would you not recommend one of the WD drives? The black ones are expensive but the warranty doesn't seem bad.
