I was looking to buy nas system and was decided on Synology DS212J and after a lot reading found out that not that powerful enough for transcoding mkv to ps3 as ps3 doesn't play mkv.
At the moment I use my main pc (i7 oc to 4ghz, etc ) with xbmc and run hdmi to my tv to watch my mkv files and thought best option to keep the electricity down is something really green like nas or small server and move all my hdd to nas.
I came across hp prowling micro servers but missed the cash back program and I thought for the price of hp I could build my own micro server and in that I could transcode mkv to ps3 until I have money to get a media streamer like apple tv or boxee or htpc.
I have a few questions if you all don't mind helping me:
1. Is Gigabyte GA-E350N-USB3 AMD Hudson - mini ITX and 4gb ram and mini itx server case with 100w pico psu can transcode smoothly to ps3 as I do watch 3d contents sometime.
2. Unraid any good for my future system as at the moment only have 2 x 1tb raid and going to put more when the price of hdd down without losing the contents?
3. If I do go Unraid route, what software I use to stream my media like mkv, ITunes server to my ps3, iPad 2, iPhone, android and also future apple tv boxee box.
4. I need it to function like or similar to Synology nas as above also I want to be able to access it when I'm away on holiday to access my media.
5. Price need to be around £150 not inc hdd and small size
