Hey, im normally alright with the whole speccing, but im not asking for that.

Im just wondering, im building a new Storage PC in the near future and was debating the AMD 3500 2.2ghz (AM2) for the processor, but then realised this may be overkil.

Im wanting atleast 320GB+ and then saw that there are the Intel Celeron D's and was wondering if you think that say a 2.53ghz to 3.33ghz processor would be alright, the prices range from under £30inc. VAT upto under £57inc. VAT.

Also would you say 400W PSU will be overkill for just a storage machine?

Just looking at the Antec Cases with PSU's and saw a 400W one.

Any other ideas for storage options?

Could you not get something like an AMD 939/754 for the same price as the Pentium D? Looking at most of the info on this forum the D is hot and sluggish, but the 939s and 754s aren't.

Possibly, i just saw a AMD Sempron 64 2800+ 1.6GHz for £46.94inc. VAT

Would you go for that over a Pentium D?

Buy a used custom or OEM rig with a PIII or an Athlon. Get a decent case with space for plenty of drives and a PCI SATA card or two. There're a few rigs like that in MM right now.

400W is way overkill unless you intend on powering a few terabytes of disks.

Only reason i chose the case/psu was because it has 5 HD spaces (I think)

Then go for it. Don't go build a mid-spec PC from expensive parts when it's not necessary. In the past few months I've given away half a dozen machines that would do nicely for what you're looking to do. They're not exactly rare and they're not exactly expensive. Don't spend a lot when you can spend a little.
