Storage racking recommendations

Looking at decking out our garden office with a couple of sets of racking but looking to see if anyone has any recommendations on brands that they've had positive experience with. We'll be storing a random collection of hobby stuff with varied weight but don't expect to be super heavy but still want the ability to be able to tie it to the wall for stability and want something fairly substantial in case the weight starts to add up over time. Will want a 300x1200x1800 and probably a 450x1200x1800 which seems to be available at the big ones I've seen recommended (Rapid Racking / Tufferman / etc)

Any recommendations would be great to add to the list!

We bought at the cheap end of the market, I can't find the details now, but I'd suggest not discounting just based on things being cheap... Main issue is going to be the MDF boards will attract moisture in the garage... I should probably have treated them but decided i'd just replace when they get to need it..

I was planning on treating them before sticking in the garden office. It's all insulated out there etc. but thought it was best to take precautions! I did discount some of the "£50 for 2 racks" kinda thing as I thought they'd be flimsy as anything but maybe I'll dig out reviews on some of them too - cheers.

Probably depends on the use case... I have 3-4m worth of shelving, quite a bit of weight on them, and they're all bolted together in an L-shape... Even cheap stuff is going to be ok unless it's simply overloaded with weight... Everything I looked at had a weight rating.

I bought a few of the Tufferman VRS racks a few months ago. They feel pretty flimsy when you get them out the box, but once you put them together they're solid.

Only criticism is that the shelves are thin mdf. They're well supported so I'm not worried about bowing, but if there's a chance they'll get damp, or you frequently drag sharp, heavy things on them, they're not going to hold up too well.

Cheers for the reply, from what I've seen the tufferman ones actually have one of the thicker mdf shelves at 6.5mm so they were nearly the top of my list but I've used the oval style racking (like BigDUG) in the past and it seems more sturdy on the off. Like you say, once they're loaded up, it'll be solid. Tufferman do have the sizes that I need though so are near the top of my list!

I've got some from a company called WowRacking, very good. They're fairly local to me, the MD tends to offer deals on FB marketplace when he has a surplus.

It might well be worth seeing if there's anywhere local to you that will let you collect.

I'd get cheap stuff brother and then replace if you need to. I have something that came up on hotukdeals (B&Q cheap tier stuff equivalent) with thin shelves and stack loads of weight on it and it isn't flimsy at all. Absolute worst case you're down £50, have more experience about what it is you want and have at least been able to use the space properly in that time. Best case, you save £150 and hours and hours researching, and don't have that "was this overkill? Did I need warehouse level shelving for my home hobby stuff" nagging feeling forever.

Fair point! Thanks, I'll have a nose

Hah, this is a very fair point. My traditional route is research and ponder about a decision until my ideal choice is no longer available and I have to start the whole process again...decision paralysis is always fun!

I should just bite the bullet on something on offer when it comes up and then, like you say, replace it with something more substantial (so long as it doesn't fail catastrophically and end up with a load of electronic kit in a pile on the floor!)

Big thread about racking here: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/heavy-ish-duty-garage-shelving-racking.18995049/

I personally used www.rackingsolutions.co.uk, namely the black heavy duty units, which are pretty decent for the price, but I appreciate that you might not need something as heavy as that (I'm storing >300kg per shelf). I found the company good to deal with and would recommend them :)
Thanks for the double information! I did do a search for racking / racking recommendation but nothing came up - obviously didn't go back far enough.

Cheers for the information all, I'll just pull the trigger on one of these options imminently and I'm sure it'll be absolutely fine.
