Hi,
I'm looking to sometime in the near future to install 2 hdd's to run in raid 1 for general documents etc. I'm currently using an old laptop hard drive for the data which i regularly backup to another internal drive. Size isn't a huge problem as not a large amount of data will be stored on there (maybe 100-200gb of data). I'm currently looking at 500gb drives but what drives would you suggest i get? or would you suggest i do something different?

For budget I'm looking preferably for sub £100 for the lot (lower the better)

Thanks :)

For £100 and if looking to RAID, you could pick up a pair of 1Tb Seagate Barracudas. You'd save a little money by dropping down to 500Gb, bit not a huge amount as prices are relatively high for smaller HDDs.

Although RAID1 will help in the result of a single drive failure, it shouldn't be considered a backup as any corruption, viruses, or even accidently deleted files will be mirrored to both drives.

Have you considered an internal drive for data, and an external USB drive that you could back up to? 500Gb of each would be easily achievable for under £100, 1Tb of each might take you over.

I'm still planning on using another internal or existing external hdd for regular backups as well. Thanks for the reply anyway, ill probably end up getting a pair of Barracudas then :)
