How do you store a petabyte, is it just 512 2TB hard drives all bunged together? also, how do you connect 512 hard drives... i think my motherboard takes 6

Anyone with a petabyte of storage is going to have it as part of a SAN (storage area network) rather than individual disks attached to a machine.

Most SANs will have the back end storage hidden behind multiple caching layers, frequently a bank of SSDs and then a hunk of RAM on the SAN controller. The disks themselves will be smaller than 2TB, probably only 300-600Gb, and arranged in a series of RAID arrays which themselves are carved up to create the LUNs which are presented to the end user machines.
