Strange 5th gen iPod problems

Hi everybody,

My 5th iPod has developed an odd problem.
Never used to have a problem, but recently it wont start automatically. When I plug it into the computer I need to press a button on the iPod for it to "awaken" and connect.
Its the same in my car, I used to be able to plug my iPod in and it would register automatically but now I need to press a button for it to connect.

Is there some sort of setting I may have missed?!

I have purchased a new cable and it hasn't made a difference, is there anything else I could try?
