Strange 8800 issue

When my PCI-E slot is running at 101mhz i get really choppy game but when its at 100mhz it is fine. Have u tried changing this at all ?
 
The only one thing left for me to try is to get an adapter for the 8pin atx power on my motherboard, i'm only running a 4pin plug into it which is supposed to be fine unless you have lots of pci cards.

I'm starting to worry that i might have a faulty component somewhere but then some games work perfectly like the new C&C and Supreme Commander.

Dont get crashes in windows, can keep it running for days.

Its probably the crap drivers, im sure i read somewhere before that this happens to loads of ppl, the cards just slow down for no reason, and it was a driver prob, no suprises there then seen as the drivers are absolute cack, the 97.92's i think had that problem as well as the random BSOD's, just don't expect them to hurry with some decent ones as they don't support their 8 sereis, only had 3x official sets (which are all crap) in over 5 months. :D

Im using the beta 101.02's which seem about the best imo, no problems with these yet. :)

Only problem ive had with these is that after instaling i kept ketting random 1-2 second lock ups. Looked in Event Viewer and had loads of errors for N View. Google the problem and it seems i hadnt disable n view, once i did the lock ups disapeared.
 
Ive tried all different drivers and tried everything at stock and on counter strike source i still get fps spikes. Gettin rid of this card as it really is too much hastle i just want to play games lol :(

Cheers mate, i have just tried those and css is not as bad as it was but i still get low fps at certain spots on a map for example de_dust2 :


Bottom left fps = 30 :mad:

I do not have a clue why it does it but if i go a few steps to the left or the right my fps are back to 60-59 ( my refresh rate aka smooth).

I have tried everything i could think of :

pci-e changed it from 100 to 101 to 105 etc
everything at stock doesnt make a difference
all the drivers available for the 8800
just using application controlled settings
using in game settings

Does anyone know what this could be ? it really is that annoying the card will be gettin thrown out the window lol :rolleyes:

ive tryed my 1950 pro and im getting the same prob

just an idea your not takeing screen shots?when strafeing?

as said above .could be the game
i get fps drop in graw when there respawning at times

No its nothing to do with screenshots as its like that all the time when at that part of the map on css :confused: it worked perfectly fine on my X1800XT :rolleyes:

As Loadsamoney suggested earlier, you may be hitting the card's memory limit. The 320Mb 8800 card seems to suffer in some games when using high resolutions & max detail settings.

Don't forget, the GTS 320 is a mid-range card, so don't expect it to play games at max settings and high resolutions. Loadsamoney gets slowdowns in STALKER with his 320Mb GTS, while those of us with GTX's have no slow-down issues at all.
 
Could it be that i only have 1gb of ram aswell ?? Would i be better offer with 2gb of ram? Because i dont want to play my games at 1280 by 1024.

1 gig all the way, its realy needed for many of the latest games. All those textures need lots of system and video Ram.
 
I've already tried the latest unofficial forceware drivers and dual core power management patch from microsoft, neither of these helped.

It's such a strange thing, in Oblivion and Stalker it will slow down at seemingly random points, alt tab to windows and back and its fixed, sometimes it doesnt come back, sometimes its back in half an hour.

Company of Heroes is the only game which starts slow untill i tab.

It's not RAM and its not detail settings as ive tried em all.

Seems a bit different from the slowdown others are having.
