Strange Amp issue

For the last 2 weeks I have been experiencing a really strange audio issue with my amp.

When I put on a HD channel via Sky in DD5.1 I loose some of the sound from certain ranges. For example, before football starts on Sky Sports HD there is a Ford advert/intro and I have almost no sound, only a very deep bass yet when the match is on the commentary and sound seems OK. In movies it seems Ok as well but you loose it on certain bits.
I have a 360 and when playing GTA4 I can hear the people chatting and gun fire but no engine noise??
When paying a DVD the sound is fine, no issues yet.

I have reset up my amp to what I think it should be but still the same issue.

My setup is:

Denon 2807 > Sky HD > Pioneer 507XD > Xbox 360 > Q-Acoustics 6.1.

Any ideas?

Q's:

1. You'll be using optical for Sky HD. Are you also using optical for the other sources that work fine?

2. Subject to above answer, are you using HDMI for Xbox audio?

3. Xbox: Is it just GTA4 that misses sound or all games?

4. DVD: does the amp confirm it is accepting & processing DD5.1?

I can't promise to help, but this may help guide as to where issue is.

Hi HummuH1,

1, No, Xbox audio is over optical as well. DVD is on HDMI.
2, No, old style xbox
3, No, other games as well
4. Yes, also amp confirms DD5.1 on HD channels.

If I change the Amp to 7 channel setting you can then hear all the missing audio but only in DPL/Stero, not DD5.1.

Hmmm, whilst I'm not expert from what you've said it sounds like Sky HD and Xbox are delivering DD5.1 OK, the Denon is receiving it fine but something is going a miss when processing and outputting. Have you tried them on any other inputs/circuits?

On the basis of what you've said and that you seem to know enough to have re-checked the set-up and not have your surround speakers are connected to the "surround" terminals and not the "rear surround"

I see you've posted on AVForums and there does see to be a small failure rate over time (although not more/less than any other AMP I would guess) I hope someone there can help.
