Strange BF3 Problem

Ayup guys,

For a good 2 weeks now I've been having this problem where after about 2-3 hours of playing BF3 the game minimizes, but when I try to re-open the game from the taskbar icon it does not appear back up on my screen. Strangely, my mouse completely disappears as if it's being "used" by the game when I do try to re-open the game, and according to task manager it's still actually running. But what doesn't make sense is if I end the process and open a new game it runs completely fine again for another 3 hours.

Now I was wondering if this could be caused to my GFX card working overtime. I'm playing with maxed settings on a GTX 580 (1.5GB) at 1920x1080 and to keep my card cool I've ramped up my fan profile pretty high, the max temps I see are 73C and average 70C. If my card/fan are having to work that hard for long periods of time are they likely to "take a rest" like what's happening now?

Any help is greatly appreciated! :)

Are you using the Nvidia 290.xx beta driver? I get this problem with TF2 (all that I've been playing recently so don't know if other games do it as well) except that when the game is still running and it's minimised, and you then click it to maximise, you can hear the game still playing and your weapons fire when you click but you can't see anything as the video is still minimised. I haven't reverted to the latest official release drivers yet to test as I'm lazy, but I can imagine this is the only reason why it happens.

My below card is getting replaced tomorrow with a 2GB GTX 560Ti!
 
ive had a similar problem in bf3 but mine is random sometimes after 1 map sometimes after 6 hours played all day sunday no probs yet fired it up a hour ago and it happened within half hour

i put it down to bf3 to be honest i know its not updating anything the pc is a games machine and used for gaming and never anything else not even browsing.

Yeah ditto. I know it's not a simple case of another application causing the game do temporarily minimise.

Perhaps a driver revert is worth a try. It's just a complete ballache when you've managed to rack up 10k exp for it to not register after it crashes.
 
I can't minimize my BF3 without crashing either. It's really annoying!

I think its a common problem as google will tell you. It's not to do with any other software and its 100% the fault of BF3.
 
Doesn't alt-tab to some other program and then alt-tab back to bf3 work? Does for me when it happens...

No, I wouldn't have made a thread if it was a simple case of alt-tabbing back to the game :p

It's happening far more frequently now and is REALLY starting to hack me off.

Reverting back to driver 285.79
