hi

i can't get my compizconfig settings manager to run - i double click the icon but no joy

i have the medium desktop effects loaded at the moment and it seems to be doing something basic - but i can't get at the custom/preferences

if i try and run it (i assume the command is ccsm) in a terminal i get this:

diss@linux:~$ ccsm
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/ccsm", line 45, in <module>
idle = ccm.IdleSettingsParser(context)
File "usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/ccm/Utils.py", line 229, in __init__
File "usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/ccm/Utils.py", line 228, in <lambda>
File "usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/ccm/Utils.py", line 225, in FilterPlugin
AttributeError: 'compizconfig.Plugin' object has no attribute 'Initialized'

any idea how i can fix this and get full customised compiz running?

thanks

PS - i have just upgraded from 7.04 to 7.10

The compizconfig-settings-manager is not installed by default in gutsy. Add it first using synaptic. This will add a custom config In the desktop effects menu.

The two options available are pre made sets. If you want the cube you need this settings manger package.

sorted it - thanks to a post by Zyphrexi on the Ubuntu forums

basically i was still running an old version of compizconfig-settings-manager

i.e. when i looked at CCSM in synaptic there was 2 installed versions one Gutsy and one other (from my previous setup i assume) - so forcing the Gutsy version seems to have fixed it as i can now open the custom preferences

hmmmm
maybe i spoke too soon
whilst i can select the top 3 buttons in Appearance/Visual Effects, and also open the Preferences tab, what i can't do is select the 'custom' option

i seem to have the desktop effects working so what does the custom button actually do?

i'm guessing custom applies all the effects you choose in the preferences. :p setting those preferences won't have any affect on the other 3 options - well that's the way i see it. :p

Did you previously have Compiz working before the upgrade I'm presuming? I had a Beryl install on 7.04 and while I thought I'd removed all traces I couldn't get Compiz working properly after doing an upgrade. Ended up doing a clean install...

yes had beryl on before the upgrade

its not working to bad - though i occasionally the top and bottom menu bars even with effects turned off :(
