Hi guys

I have am trying to copy files from my new Win7 installation over to an XP pc and only get around 20MB/s transfer speed over a gigabit network

However when I copy the other way round, from the XP pc to the Win7 pc I get more than double this.

Ive tried turning off the antivirus and firewall on the Win7 pc but still no good, I've also updated the network drivers on win7

Any ideas?

Ok

An update to this problem...

I have just wiped my win7 install and reinstalled win xp and still get the same issue.

If I copy a dvd from my media pc to my main pc it takes about 1 and half minutes. However if i copy the same file from my main pc to the media pc (i.e. the other way round) it take exactly double the time..3 minutes.

Very strange...
Any ideas?

I'm actually copying a DVD iso file across the network and so im not using a dvd optical drive.

Also, the drives are the same make.

Its weird that it takes double the time to copy one way across a network than it does the other way.

Any more ideas?

Sorry, I should have been more clear.

I was refering to your Hard disc read write speed.

When using a network with high speed transfers (assuming everything is ok) the bottle neck is always the read/write speeds of the hdd's being used.

hope it helps.

The hard drives are both samsung F1's and if i copy the same file from my main pc is it half the speed of copying the other way round with exactly the same drives.

So it looks like some weird network issue
