Strange iPhone 3GS problem here...

For some reason it keeps flashing up on my screen:

'iphone says charging is not supported with this accessory'

The thing is there is nothing plugged in. I've tried a restore and there is no joy. Any thoughts. Maybe a trip to the Genius bar is in order.

Yeah I thought that but I've done all I can to clean it. Looks good, I've not had it long enough for substantial dirt to build up.

Yeah would that make a difference it doesn't go anywhere near the usb port.

im sure i heard someone have a similar problem (water damage) say they removed their case. it didnt fix the issue but the messages appeared far less.

Mmm water damage - not sure where that would have come from - is there any way to check without one of those eye torches the Genius bar use?

not the proper iphone charger? mine isn't proper supported with it so once charged i get that lol

i had that problem on my iphone the other day. clearing out the dock connector of dust etc fixed it for me. used the corner of a business card.

Turns out some condensation had got into the dock connector. Fortunately they replaced it with a shiny new iphone - score!
