Strange issue arose with CSS.

Hey been playing CSS recently and it has been perfect, changed updated latest gpu drivers etc and was still fine. Recently got BF3 and I just thought i'd have another go back on CSS as I still enjoy it.

It runs like absolute rubbish, seems smooth til I see anyone then the fps dips to as low as 25 fps, it's horrible and unplayable.

Any reason why this may be? I have a gtx 580 so it's not like it's testing it in any way shape or form and it runs bf3 perfectly.

I've seen this happen but can't really add any insight other than making a guess that "perhaps" it has something to do with the card dropping the clocks down when not under load. It's happened to me on other games resulting in a game that I should be getting 300 fps with vsync off and instead getting 15.

In the CS:S options, have you got 'multicore rendering enabled'? After 'the' big update of summer 2010, the game tended to crash and lock-up for many people. I think now it's fixed, certainly more reliable than before anyway. Perhaps partly due to my connection to the server (but imo mainly because of my cpu), I sometimes find it provides a less than satisfactory frame rate. Turning on multicore rendering helps enormously.
