hi guys, got a strange problem with my mobo. A few times I have turned my computer on and the cpu fan is going at full pelt, then a screen comes up saying 'cmos checksum bad, press f1 to enter setup or f? to load deafults'.

for sum reason it's forgotten the settings and returned everything to deafult. my system spec is:

Asus maximus formula
intel QX6700
BFG 8800GTX OC
2x1GB ddr2 pc8500
creative x-fi extreme music

nothing is oc, all at deafult values. Does this error message mean the mobo is on it's way out?

thanks in advance

Try changing the cmos battery...

thats what powers the cmos to remember its settings when the pc is not powered up.

if you switch you pc off at the mains when not in use this is the most likely cause. ;)

it doesn't do it all the time, had the mobo a couple of months and it's done it twice, really weird! It does remember the day/date/time etc just seems to disable the q-fan setting for the cpu
