Strange noise

Hello All, I recently built my new system (first build) and the cable management is pretty messy behind the mobo side, now I went to add another LED to my system yesterday and shortly after I did I noticed a small crackling sound every so often... So I then removed the LEDS and replaced the panel on the side. This noise is still there... I cant hear it if I have a head set on or I am over the other side of the room, but I am worried it could be a faulty connection or short or something of the kind. Is my best solution to remove all the cables and re connect them all or what?

Its not coming from the headset or speakers its coming from the tower its self and I cant figure out what part

Check there are no wires or cables hitting the fans.
With the side panel off, can you tell which part of the case it is coming from, might narrow things down a bit.

This may sound crazy, but to isolate the noise, get a piece of tube, an old kitchen towel tube will do and put it against your ear, then slowly move the other end around your case, the tube will narrow down the noise as well as amplify it, at least then you'll know where it's coming from.

the issue is sometimes it take 1 minute to happen sometimes its 3 mins or so, should I just ignore it as its not actually causing any problems atm?

Does this noise occur when you have just turned on your PC or does it still happen when it's been on a few hours?

well, just cos it's not a problem now, doesn't mean it won't become a problem.
If it was a fan rubbing it would be constant, if it's electrical crackling that's BAD.
Just spend a bit of time to fix it, It's not worth the crackle becoming a bang

its happens when its on for any amount of time, there is also a very feint pulse/tick noise from around the motherboard area (from the back)

Think I will just disconnect everything - reconnect everything apart from the case fans, and then see if its ok if not I don't have a clue what to do next

I would check it out, could be a fail switch in the PSU, could be a dying hard drive or could be something as simple as a fan bearing going.

For now check that the kettle lead is fully pushed into the PSU at the back, this would cause the noise your describing.

its all brand new stuff btw all fans are corsair AF performance. the RAD fans and 2 front intake fans are being powered through the fan controller standard on the front of the CM stormstryker. not sure weather the fact that I changed the fans might have caused an issue, maybe too much for the case controller?

Jamin - that is the kind of noise that it is making (like when you connect a kettle lead that is switched on), I will have to wait until I get home to check though.

So it sounds like it's defiantly electrical then.

I know you say it's all brand new stuff, but it doesn't stop it being faulty, and you don't want a faulty PSU killing your whole computer.

So if I go home at lunch, and check the kettle cable and check the connections into the PSU, is there anything else I should check that you can think of?

Guys, I think I have figured it out!! I checked all the cables and they seemed ok, I then noticed that below my bottom intake fan , there was a small rolled up sticky label.... the fan was sucking the label against the bottom of the case every so often and I think this was the culprit!!! removed it and then sat and listened and there was no noise ! I will test further tonight to see if it was the label - thanks for the suggestions tho
