Hi there,

I replaced a like for like mobo in my friends system.

When I turn it on, the pc posts then when after the post screen the system just automatically switches itself off.

I have checked all connections, reseated RAM, reset CMOS, everything I can think off, I have even tried a diff psu...

I am running out of things to check, can someone please help?

thanks in advance..

Pull the sticks of memory out one at a time and try again each time with one slot empty. If it works with one particular slot empty then swap the sticks around and put a different one in that slot. That will tell you whether you have a faulty stick of memory or a faulty slot. Trying again with two sticks removed (assuming you have 4) will tell you whether there's a problem with having 4 slots filled. And of course if none of this makes the blindest bit of difference then you've eliminated memory and memory slots from the list of possible causes. :)

If not memory, which is most likely culprit then probably overheat protection

Try reseating CPU if no joy with RAM

there is only 1 stick of RAM...

i double checked the cpu and the hsf...

i noted whilst the topside of the cpu had paste on it the bottom of the hsf did not, does that suggest to you it is not making contact?

hsf is plugged in correctly as the fan spins

You got a hard drive connected? Try formatting the drive and reinstalling everything it could be more than likely a compatibility issue if the board is not exactly the same.
