Strange performance in Dirt 2

Posted this in thew Dirt 2 thread but probably better if I raise this separately.

I ran the Benchmark and it says: 51.5 fps min, 61.5 fps avg

However, this game has a similar problem to Dirt for me. Stick it on those dune buggy truck things and the performance is laggy. It doesn't go lower than 40 fps in fraps but just seems to go into slow motion when there are lots of cars on the track.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and could it be my core 2 duo struggling to keep up?

Thanks for the replies guys.

Just to let you know I've upgraded to a Q6700 and the game runs fine now. Seems this game needs a quad core to cope with more than one car on track at a time.
