strange problem i have, hard to explain Slave Drive Causes Hanging .....

strange problem i have, hard to explain really Slave Drive Causes Hanging, ok here goes, yesterday pc booted up as normal like it has done for 2 years but today it would only boot up when i dissconect my slave drive, i done a maxter blaster test on both drives and they passed just fine, also power supply is ok and also i tried connecting slave drive to other power connectors just in case one was bad, but it does not boot with any connected it just powers up for like 2 seconds then pc shuts down but as soon as i take out power plug from slave it then boots ok, the only way i can get both hard drives to boot is when in windows i physically plug in the slave drive power connector and then just reset pc and then all ok, but if i actually turn pc off and start from scratch its a no go again, but its a real pain doing this each time, any ideals what my problem can be, i have tried most things now, i have not added any new hardware for ages either. thx

Sounds like an issue in your BIOS... Have a look at your HDD and boot settings and see if anything has changed.

If it isn't your BIOS perhaps it is a physical problem with your HDD that MaxBlast cannot detect. Either way I would consider backing up any data on that drive you want to keep - just in case this is a sign of bad things to come.

thx for reply m8, and yes i have backed up all of slave drive onto dvd-rw's just in case, and i have checked bios throuly i even put back to default to test and still no go, its strange that when i am in windows booted from just the master drive i then connect the molex connector on slave drive and then reboot its perfect, it just wont boot from cold. ok any other help would be good. thx

I had been having a drive related problem were the slave drive on every cold or re-boot would be reported as "needing checked" and windows would start doing a NTFS file and integrady check .... most annoying and confusing considering I hadn't changed any hardware or settings in months.

I tried everything but no success until I flashed my bios to the latest release .... bingo :D .... problem gone, everything sweet again :)

m/b is Abit IS7 now with latest v24 bios ... small point ... last time I did a flash-bios was about 7 years ago and it had to be done with floppies from dos ... how refreshing to be able to do it thru windows now ;)
