Strange problem - Put in PCMCIA wireless card and get 100% CPU usage?

When I plug my NetGear PCMCIA WG511T card into my laptop, CPU usage rises to 100%. When I take it out, it reduces back down to 1%.

Watching in "Windows Task Manager" without the card plugged in:-
System Idle Process - 99%
taskmgr.exe - 1%

The moment I plug the card in processes goes up by 2. The machine slows right down with taskmgr periodically jumping up 10-60%, explorer also popping in every now and then 10-30%.

The CPU usage at the bottom of the "Windows Task Manager" reads 100% almost ALL the time!

Unplug the card and instanstly processes drops by 2, and CPU usage drops to 1%.

Machine in a P2.2M Laptop with 256meg of ram running XP Pro.

Seemingly if I play around with the speed/network type on the router, and reconnect the laptop again, it can sometimes seemingly "kick it" so CPU usage then drops to normal.

I've uninstalled and re-installed the drivers to no avail...

Any suggestions?

I had this problem with a 3Com card crashing my notebook until I took the card back out, turned out the card was faulty.

Hmmm... The card is OK on another laptop - I'll try it again to make sure!
